i love layouts with multiple columns for posts, like
https://tess090.insanejournal.com
https://tess072.insanejournal.com
https://tess071.insanejournal.com
however, i don't find any of these on DW, except a single one made by killthecake, which i tried to edit but don't manage to make it fit my likes. so any tips or suggestions? i'd also be happy if someone actually made layouts that looked similar to the above ones since i enjoy minimalist style and tiny fonts.

hello kind code-mages,

we are using the dark forest style for transmogrified. we have 2 questions.

1) is it possible to make the navigation strip display in custom colours, on a style where that is not an option on the customisation page (such as our current one)? both of the default colour gradients hurt our eyes.

2) is there a way to customise the colours of the text input box & dropdown menu box in the navigation strip (for the sitewide search function)? despite our accessibility settings, they are defaulting to a glaring white background with black text, which is painful for us.

we read through the ~color, page:navigation & navigation strip tags, and did not find these answers. could any generous wizards help us?

thankyou very much in advance.

Hello to all the lovely and helpful people here.

I recently ditched my old LJ-imported layout completely and switched to my first genuine Dreamwidth layout (Transmogrified) which I have customized to the best of my abilities ever since. However, (LJ-)CUTS have become my new nemesis, since they continue to defy a lot of my attempts at customization. I managed to exchange the Expand/Collapse/Collapse-End images, but there are two more things I'd like to change:

The text colour of the cut link and the brackets/braces around it )

Anyway, I am using a custom theme layer and I'm reasonably comfortable with overriding S2 Core functions or tackling some CSS. I just need help what to change here, since neither "trial and error" nor combing through stuff with the page inspector have revealed any workable solutions so far and it's been giving me some headaches.

Any help would be highly appreciated!

Hi.

I'm currently using Abstractia, my journal is here. And while I'm mostly happy with how things look, I am trying to figure out the CSS coding to move my entire layout (header included) to the right so the background photo is uncovered.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to look for said code? I'm sure this is super basic stuff, but I'm still figuring out the basics of how to read code.

Any help in this is very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Hello! Some years ago, I sort of muddled my way through porting my style over from LiveJournal. However, there were a few minor issues that I couldn't seem to figure out on my own, so I posted here awhile back. I received some wonderful help and was able to resolve all but one of the problems! Now I've returned in hopes of finding a way to fix that last one.

My style info )

Problem: Adding direct entry links to my journal. When I load my journal and look at my entries, there's a link at the bottom of each one that says "Leave a comment". If there are comments on an entry, there will also be a link to the left of that which says "[X] comments". I would really like to also always have a link in this area that just links directly to that entry. Ideally something like [community profile] style_system itself has ("Link" and "Reply" if there are no comments, "Link" "[X] comments" and "Reply" if there are some).

If you got all the way through that, thank you for taking the time to read! Any help with this would be so deeply appreciated. What little I know about coding layouts is self-taught and spotty at best, so any and all explanations to accompany any help offered would be especially awesome, too. Thanks so much!

I would like to import the old LJ style "Tabular Indent" using this tutorial but it's telling me I can't create anymore layers? I even deleted a bunch. Is it because I'm trying to create s1 or is it because I don't have a paid account?

I've previously imported Generator, Flexible Squares and another layout so I know it was possible...

Hi there. I can't figure out how to change my account header. Can you help me?

I apologize if it is misspelled. I can't write English, so I use a computer translator, he could be wrong.

That's what I want to fix.

hello! i have a kind of specific question:

is there a way to switch the order the metadata is displayed in? the metadata originally displays in the order of mood, then location, then music--so, is there something i can put into my code to make it so that it shows, say: music, then location, then mood?

thanks!

Hi,
I recently ported Flexible Squares + a layout from livejournal to use at [community profile] 3weeks4dreamwidth. Try as I might, I'm having a hard time adjusting some things, and since I'm on a bit of a deadline (wanted to start promoting on the 1st) I hoped somebody here might have the answers.

My two big issues are:
the font in the comments is tiny
the first line of every comment is partially covered up by the poster's icon, as is the second like of entry titles.

Would also love it if:
the entry titles could be links
have icons link to the user's userpics when clicked
change the color of italics
get rid of the calendar at the top

CSS

Many thanks for any help <3

I'm using [personal profile] tickletheory's [community profile] plainstyles Style 4 theme, and recently decided I wanted to make the icons bigger, plus make icons appear on my journal's recent entries page (not just my reading page). I ended up adding the following code:

css code )

This worked mostly great, except for some reason, it only displays correctly for public posts? For access-locked posts or posts with custom filters, the alignment is all off. I would think it's because of the little lock icon, but it doesn't happen to public stickies. I don't see any code specific to security level in any of the relevant layers.

I've been able to partially fix this by doing further adjustments to entry css based on security level, but it's breaking other things, and I feel like there must be some other option to make all the security levels display the same?

Does anyone know what's causing this, and/or how to fix it?

I have my Dreamwidth profile coded with a table, but the page is putting in a CSS design element of 'vertical-align: baseline' . This is messing up the alignment of the elements in my table. I have tried a variety of solutions for the alignment of the table elements to fix it but nothing seems to work.

If I use the inspector function on Firefox and remove the design element, the table looks correct. https://seleneheart.dreamwidth.org/profile

I can share the table code if necessary.

Any idea how to override this?

EDIT: I and did a trial-and-error deleting spree of code sections lol. I was so convinced it was something in the footer, but it turns out the culprit was padding in the control strip.

I just started using this layout from [community profile] plainstyles on my community [community profile] sigaw.

On my desktop, I can see a horizontal scrollbar at the bottom of the page, despite not having any posts in the community yet.

Does anyone know what part of the CSS I need to tweak to get rid of it?

After 4 years on DW I thought it's finally time to fix my tags page. From searching this comm I gathered that it's possible to give a Core 1 layout multilevel tags. Unfortunately that post isn't helpful to me, because
1. The link to the code is dead,
2. I only know HTML & CSS, so I need step-by-step instruction for this layer thing.

When we made a bunch of changes to how comment pages worked last summer, it had the side effect of breaking Javascript in core1 layouts, because the scripts now need to be loaded at the end of the document rather than in the head. We have a fix for this now, but because core1 layouts typically override all the main functions, it was impossible to apply automatically, and you will have to edit your layouts individually.

I used to have a userstyle that made the content on Tropospherical site-skinned pages wider but after the recent site changes it no longer works and I haven't been able to fix it.

I just want the entry content and comments to take up more of the page instead of being huddled together in a narrow column. Help with css?

Edit: Okay I dug around in the comments of the most recent dw-maintence post and found some code from [personal profile] darjeeling that did the trick.

Hi, I'm using baud's layout that customizes Tabula Rasa. I was wondering how to fix the CSS so that it shows my user icon at the top of dreamwidth posts/entries along with displaying the icons of user comments. I would appreciate the help!

Hi everyone,

Would anyone have the layer for Flexible Squares and/or Smooth Sailing to use for Dreamwidth?

Thank you so much!
[personal profile] molluscsandmonsters
I have no background in CSS, and I've forgotten most of what I used to know about HTML. I used to be pretty good at googling + searching for specific terms to customize tumblr themes, but it's been a while.

I like the Abstractia base a lot (I'm messing with Abstractia Abyss right now, I know my adjustments look a little goofy, let me be ridiculous in peace) but there's one thing I don't like and can't seem to modify, which is the subheader that lists which page you're on (not to be confused with the subheader that is controlled by the subheader option in the title section of the wizard). What I really want is to get rid of it entirely since the navigation sidebar module is perfectly adequate for seeing what page you're on at a glance, but failing that I'd like to at least be able to change the font.

It doesn't look like it's possible to access/edit the raw code, which makes sense if you want to put some basic safety limits on what people can mess with or make sure they don't alter the style credit. (Though the raw code is viewable and downloadable, so... maybe the idea is that if you want to substantially modify something, you can take that, modify it, and upload your own version?) The text seems to be linked to whatever text you have for the navigation module, as deleting the text in the navigation module also deletes the subheader, but then of course the navigation module doesn't work for navigation anymore. I can't find anything else in the wizard that affects it at all, nor can I work out what command I might add to the layer to stop it from displaying.

Here is the Abstractia source code.

This is the layer generated by my messing around with the customization wizard: )

Any idea what I should do?
