Hello! Some years ago, I sort of muddled my way through porting my style over from LiveJournal. However, there were a few minor issues that I couldn't seem to figure out on my own, so I posted here awhile back. I received some wonderful help and was able to resolve all but one of the problems! Now I've returned in hopes of finding a way to fix that last one.

My style info )

Problem: Adding direct entry links to my journal. When I load my journal and look at my entries, there's a link at the bottom of each one that says "Leave a comment". If there are comments on an entry, there will also be a link to the left of that which says "[X] comments". I would really like to also always have a link in this area that just links directly to that entry. Ideally something like [community profile] style_system itself has ("Link" and "Reply" if there are no comments, "Link" "[X] comments" and "Reply" if there are some).

If you got all the way through that, thank you for taking the time to read! Any help with this would be so deeply appreciated. What little I know about coding layouts is self-taught and spotty at best, so any and all explanations to accompany any help offered would be especially awesome, too. Thanks so much!

After 4 years on DW I thought it's finally time to fix my tags page. From searching this comm I gathered that it's possible to give a Core 1 layout multilevel tags. Unfortunately that post isn't helpful to me, because
1. The link to the code is dead,
2. I only know HTML & CSS, so I need step-by-step instruction for this layer thing.

Hi there! I'm currently using a ported version of Smooth Sailing and, since DW's retired the .bml aspect of links, I'm having trouble fixing my style to go to my userpics. It's been ages since .bml was retired, and this was one of my back-burner projects, but now that I'm fiddling with it I can't seem to figure out what values to stick in there!

My problem can be accurately summed by visiting my journal and clicking on my default userpic. I'm able to find the instances of allpics.bml in the ported sheet (three) but fixing it, well.. no luck so far! Any tips will imputed for test ASAP. =)

Solved! See comment! =)

Greetings~

I'm not quite sure if this is the right community for this kind of question, but I'm not really sure where else I could ask.

I am using a LJ imported mixit based layout, specifically Your Biggest Flan by [livejournal.com profile] thefulcrum. The layout itself looks exactly the way I want it, so I don't need help on that front. My problem is that for some reason the link to "memories" (which I renamed to "log files") appears twice on the navbar. I looked around DW, but nobody seems to have ever had this same problem before.

Does anyone know what's causing it? Is there a way to remove one of them? I tried leaving it blank, because I'm not all that interested in having the link to my memories in the navbar, and while that removes both the original and the double, it leaves a wider gap between "tags" and "personal file" (profile) and it's really unaesthetic. While we're at it, is there a way to remove "tags" as well? I don't really need it or want it, since the tags are displayed on the sidebar.

I'm not new to importing layouts and I have used a variety of LJ native ones before, but this never happened with any of them.

Thanks!

Accounts in question: [personal profile] nightfall_mods and its related accounts (links are in the sidebar.) Currently layout-testing on [personal profile] sanguine_saint where there's a ton of comments on the layout-test page, for convenience's sake, too. (Er... been using ?style=mine; I'll throw the layout up on that account in a min.)

Issue: There's no Expand link, in collapsed comments. I'd like there to be, but I'm only just now dipping my toes into S2 (core version 1, Style Contest from LJ. Well, specifically, from IJ.)

Read more... )

My apologies if I've left out something relevant (let me know, and I'll happily provide it!) and thanks in advance for any advice/pointers!

I'm having a strange problem in Flexible Squares. I could have sworn this setup used to work for making a quick reply box pop up, without having to reload the page, but I haven't messed with Flexible Squares on DW in well over a year. I had the old code I used for the custom layer and for my CSS, I imported my CSS from LJ. Now, I can't actually reply to any comments on the post itself. It reloads the page to a new reply page. I suspect it might be a problem with my custom layer, but I have no idea where to look for it.

Layer code is here.

Problem solved!
There was a problem with my theme layer that was keeping the quick reply box from working. I found another version of the theme layer code by [personal profile] crush   that seems to have fixed the problem.

I hope this is the right place to ask about this--

I was wondering if there is a way to edit the "xpost" section to fit in line with the tags and mood/music/etc. on a layer that I'm using an LJ layout on? That, or stop it from displaying at all, if I have to.

Hello,

I'm using Flexible Squares, and when I view my friends page, the name of the user/community doesn't show up underneath the userpic. Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks!

New person here, trying to edit a theme layer. Anybody have any clue what to do about this?

Compile error: line 14, column 5: Can't declare usage of non-existent property
S2::NodeProperty, S2/NodeProperty.pm, 90
S2::NodePropGroup, S2/NodePropGroup.pm, 77
S2::Checker, S2/Checker.pm, 374
S2::Compiler, S2/Compiler.pm, 34

Full disclosure: I don't know how to fix this or if it even can be fixed, I'm very new at this and mostly just following a tutorial on how to create theme layers.

I've copied my LJ style to DW using a Core 1 layout layer (Flexible Squares) and a custom css stylesheet (by circa77 on LJ, modified by me) in the customization wizard. It works fine on DW with one exception that I can see: the entry text isn't right on the reply page (?mode=reply). It does work in the entry view (the one you get to by following a cut or a direct link) and even the 'read comments' view, and it's not a problem on LJ, so the issue seems to be DW-specific. It seems to affect only the entry and date/subject text, too — the entry background colour and all other parts of the page are fine.

I've tried to tweak it using .lj-view-reply .entry or .entry_text, which hasn't made a difference in any variation I've tried. If anyone has any idea of how to fix this, I'd be most grateful to know. :)

I'm back with yet another question. I feel like I am spamming this community... My sincere apologies.

I would like to seperate my currents (the tags to be specific) with a comma. Right now, there's just a blank space, which is a little confusing. However, I don't know what to edit in my CSS. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here's my CSS.

Tiny icons

I have just imported all my LiveJournal entries to Dreamwidth. It seems that my tiny icons have been imported as well. My DW layout is supposed to show an entirely different icon for locked entries, but for some reason it now shows the icon I used at LJ. Can somebody tell me how to change/fix this?

Thank you very much in advance!

ETA: Fixed! Figured it out and fixed it. Thanks for the help!

I've imported my journal style from LJ, which has been done in Smooth Sailing (got it from here; edited colors and background to be to my own liking) and I have a small problem. All of the pages that I look at have the "&style=mine" in them so it seems like all users use my layout. I'd like to get rid of that but so far the only thing I can do is manually remove it from the address bar and then reload the page.

I've checked the customize your style page but couldn't find a solution so I've been wondering if this is something that needs to be implemented in the custom css itself. If anyone could help I'd be really grateful.

I am trying to use the layout disjointed for a custom layout for a dw journal. I had success with flexible squares with another journal.

I compile and save, and get this error, the same error with several tries:

Compile error: line 261, column 5: Can't declare usage of non-existent property
S2::NodeProperty, S2/NodeProperty.pm, 90
S2::NodePropGroup, S2/NodePropGroup.pm, 77
S2::Checker, S2/Checker.pm, 374
S2::Compiler, S2/Compiler.pm, 34
Context

257: property use text_edit_entry;
258: property use text_edit_tags;
259: property use text_mem_add;
260: property use text_tell_friend;
261: property use text_flag;
262: property use text_permalink;
263: property string free_text {
264: des = "Free text";
265: rows = 10;

I am assuming it has to do with "flag" but I do not know what to replace it with.

I imported Flexible Squares from LiveJournal and I'm using a theme by [community profile] refuted called Autumn. I'd really like the Navigation Strip at the top to show up, but I think there's something in the CSS hiding it. Anyone have a better idea than me why it might not be showing up?

Edit: Fixed! Now I just need to go back and mess with margins, since the fix messed them up.

Is there a way to add the "previous 5" (or 10 or whatever) link to the navigation bar at the top of my recent entries, reading and network pages? I'm using Mixit, which I believe is a Core1 LJ style.

ETA: Also I figured out how to reverse the order of the entries on my reading page (for values of figured out which equal bugging the Support people), but it didn't reverse the order of my Page Summary. I wonder if there's a way to do that. (I care about this much less than the first question.)

Hello everyone,

I am currently using the "Nevermore" theme, based on "Funky Circles", and I have a few questions.

Here's what I would like to do: I have added a header via the "customize" boxes, but my header refuses to budge from the upper right hand corner.

Also, my background doesn't start till after the bottom of the header, so obviously I need to add the header in the code itself, and not to the customization boxes. But I have no idea how to get in to the guts of my theme. Not a clue where to look for it.

When I look under my layers, I see the customizations made via the wizard, and also the previous layout that I originally installed. When I click on custom css, I get a blank box. When I click on customize, I just go back to the wizard area. HOW do I find the code for my current style? I'm sure this is something totally obvious, and I'm just being thick, but I'm beating my head against the wall at this point, lol.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give a clueless DW newb!

Hi all!

I'm a recent LJ refugee, and I'm hoping for some help in fixing my layout.

I was able to port the layout I'm currently using in my LJ, [livejournal.com profile] betterdazed, which is based on Flexible Squares. However in LJ, the post subjects in my Recent Entries and Friends are permalinks. Right now in DW, the subjects are just texts.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this? Many thanks!

Hi!

I joined DW when it was closed beta and used an imported core 1 style: Mixit, Linus and Lucy - for [community profile] sg1genrecs. I've had various tweakings done on the layout (with help!) and I really don't want to change it.

On the other hand, I very much would like to change the tag list to multilevel - for a rec comm with so many different tags, a multilevel would make it much easier for people to find what they're looking for.

Does anyone know if it's possible to add the multilevel tag option to a core 1 style? And if so, could you please hold my hand and walk me very slowly through it? :)

Thanks!

Is it possible to set a variable to be another variable?

That is, instead of:

set color_thing = "#333366";

doing:

set color_thing = $*some_other_thing;

such that the default value of $*color_thing is equal to the value of $*some_other_thing, but with option for user to override?
