Hello, and thank you in advance for taking the time to read this. Some years ago, I sort of muddled my way through porting my style over from LiveJournal. However, there are a few minor issues that I can't seem to figure out on my own, and I'd love to finally address them. Would any of you wonderful people be able to help me?

If you got all the way through that, you deserve an award haha. Any help with any of these problems would be so deeply appreciated. What little I know about coding layouts is self-taught and spotty at best, so any and all explanations to accompany any help offered would be especially awesome, too. Thanks so much!

Edit: Solved

I am currently messing around with more of the DW base styles. Is there a way to hide the entire module at the top of the page that says "recent entries" ? I went back through the blog here and I found out how to hide the text but I am still left with the bar at the top. I am using Line Up.

I'm not sure where or how to ask this exactly, but I'm using branchandroot's Starflower and I noticed that the header is just my username and "recent" next to it. Is there a way to display my journal title and subtitle on the header for the main page instead?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I'm pretty new to DW's communities. Thanks for any help in advance.

I am 98% 100% sure this is a result of the code push (and I don't begrudge the people who wanted this to happen; pretty sure I've seen it come up a couple of times in this community) but I really, really don't want my page title to be a link. That's what the "recent" button is for. Or my username in the navbar.

Is there any way to fix this, without mucking with things in the theme layer?

Thanks in advance!

(If not, I'll just... target the header to strip out the underline and visited link color, I guess. Which would be better than me thinking, this isn't the right page every time I'm dithering about on my account.)

Hello! I have two things I need help with.

1. How do I remove the page title from the header? I used the following, which hid the title nicely, but my header is still showing "recent entries" and other page titles. I looked through past entries here, and I thought this code would work.

2. How do I format the hr tag? I tried formatting it using the following code, but nothing showed up. I tried other, simpler things such as just using a solid line, but nothing shows up there either. Is this something to do with the layout I chose? The default seems to be just extra spacing as the hr and no horizontal lines.

I apologize. I know this has been covered here before but I've tried a few things (and looked through the help guide) and I'm not making any progress.

I'd like to remove the header image text/subtext.

This is my theme:

I'm thinking it's possible the commands I'm trying to implement into the CSS just aren't going in the right place. I used to be much more fluent in CSS than I am presently and I'm giving myself a headache trying to figure this out.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
This has been solved. Thank you!

I'm afraid I'm again trying to do things above my knowledge of CSS.

As you can see on [personal profile] sally_maria, I've replaced the background image, and reduced the size of the space at the top before the entries start, but I'd like to move the title up, so I can reduce the gap further, and I can't work out what is controlling its position.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

For the first time I'm trying to adapt a native DW style (Heads Up) for a comm instead of working with a ported-from-LJ one. I've been sticking to custom CSS and so far I seem to have managed to change most of the things I wasn't happy with. There are a couple of things I seem to be completely unable to fix however.

They both concern entry headers… )

Hello, belated refugee from Livejournal here. I've managed to figure out most of what I wanted to do by trawling through the tags here, but there are a few niggling details that I still haven't gotten. I'm currently using Abstractia...

1) Can I/How do I put the Multiform-checkbox in the comments footer unto the same line as the comment management/interaction links (thus narrowing the comment footer to one line in height)?

2) SOLVED! I have my text title header set to be a link to the front of my journal using the theme layer code found here. Is there a way to change the font color of the title header alone without changing it for every other link as well?

Thanks for any help!

EDIT:: Problem solved, thanks to [personal profile] awakened! C:

Currently, I am having issues with wanting to change the module header text for both "Links" and "Profile" at the bottom of my page [akin to how one may edit said header text for the 'custom text' box module] as is seen like this --

"<body>
<div class="module-userprofile module"><h2 class="module-header"><a href="http://ephemeraldelusion.dreamwidth.org/profile">Profile</a></h2>
<div class="module-typelist module"><h2 class="module-header">Links</h2>
</body>"

to

"<body>
<div class="module-userprofile module"><h2 class="module-header"><a href="http://ephemeraldelusion.dreamwidth.org/profile">delineation</a></h2>
<div class="module-typelist module"><h2 class="module-header">connections</h2>
</body>"

[Yes, I am one of those obnoxious people who love to use fancy words in place of the given titles.]

However, I have noted that one may not edit any body text, of course, so how may I go about doing this? Is there any way?

Currently I have "h2.module-header { display:none; }" in its place as the titles were bothering me that badly. [Sadly that removes the calender header as well, which I am rather displeased about.]

Is there anything I may do or am I stuck module header-less for the rest of my stay? [I really am not all too savvy in CSS, so I may be asking a stupid question.]

Hello fellow style addicts!

I recently moved in from LJ and I'm in the process of recreating my journal layout at DW. I'm using the Brittle layout and trial/error my way through the design. ;) Most things I managed to work out by myself, but there are a few points I can't seem to find a solution for. Hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction. Additionally, I'm not sure what tags would be appropriate for this post. I'd be relieved, if the mods could handle that. ^^;

1.
My header looks like this. What I'd like to have is instead of the journal name/page title to show a simple link menu I can freely configure, such as:
profile  |  circles  |  calendar  |  link a  |  link b
I found in this lovely community already how to get rid of the page title etc. What I don't know is how I could put links there instead, and perhaps my profile icon in a smaller size. --- Partially solved!

2.
I'd like to move "Previous 50" to the right and to change the font size. So far I only managed to find out how to change the color. I'd like to do the same on the bottom of the page. (Currently the profile module sits there as well. I disabled it for now, because my first plan had been to put it in the header, which didn't work and the entire thing would have been too big for the top of my page anyway.) --- SOLVED!

3.
Is there a way to (a) change the font size of user names independently from the font size for date/time? Also, is there a way to (b) place the user names below their icons in such a way that they behave "intelligently", i.e. have line breaks, if the name length exceeds a certain amount of letters? This is mainly interesting for communities when you have "userblabla posted in communityblabla". I found out how to change the positioning in general, but I assume the user name would have to be withing the icon layer to be confined to it and for the entry text to not overlap it, and I couldn't figure out how to do that or how to add another box below the icon in which I could put the user name. --- Part (a) solved!

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer me! (Also: please ignore the white page background, I'll be adding a background image once everything sits on its right place.)

Hi.

Is there anyway to make the text on the header not visible? I'm using practicality for [community profile] mood_music and I'd like to get rid of the journal title and page title so that just the image displays. How would I do that?

Thanks.

Problem 1 : Header - I want to get rid of the journal title, subtitle and the "Recent" (or any nav title) SOLVED!
Problem 2 : Links at the bottom of entries (AKA edit entry, adit tags,...) - I want them to me white :-) SOLVED!
Problem 3 : Navi links - I want to move them under the header and centered. SOLVED!
Problem 4 : Subject of entries - is it possible to move them a few px to the right from the icon? And maybe making the font a bit bigger and in bold? SOLVED!
Problem 5 : I want to get rid of the "Previous 20/Next 20" links/bar at the top of the journal and only leaving the ones at the bottom. SOLVED!
Problem 6 : I would like to move everything (icon, subect, date, TEXT,...) a few px on BOTH sides from the border in the entries AND the module/sidebar. SOLVED!
Problem 7 : I would like to move the entries so when clicking on the "Reading/Friends" page (or any other for that matter) they would be at the same height as on the "Recent" page (AKA same distance from the header everywhere). SOLVED!

I'm totally new here and have no clue how to write CSS so if you managed to help me with these with some CSS coding or even just pointing me in the right direction and telling me what's possible and what not I would be super thankful and might possibly owe you my firstborn :-D
The DW confuses me and takes away my sleep :-( Please help! O.o

Hi,

I'm trying to get a header onto Brittle over at [community profile] slashing_jane. I tried it using the #canvas tag(?) but when it was centered it was out of alignment with the body and when I put it to the left I couldn't work out how to move it in until it lined up. Also I want a background image for the page but I'm not sure how to do both.

I know nothing about CSS so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sayra.

hi! i freely admit i have 'the dumbz'....i don't want to import my theme/style from LJ, i am okay with the one i found here on DW....i would like to customize the header though and i have zero clue how to do that and i tried to find some info in FAQs, etc and i might have been looking wrong???? (i totally was looking wrong!)

i am using 'purple' for my journal style....

i DID find the CSS code to remove the 'recent entries' from the header but didn't want to add that yet lest it interfere with future CSS code additions.....and i know i can get rid of the 'profile module' too once i get the header sorted out.....

i'd like to put my journal name in the center and then have links under it (within the header) for: profile, friend's page (reading page), link to my domain, archive....i think this is possible??? i did buy a premium account here (sooo impressed with DW and how they value their users! :) i just don't know how and got really confused trying to find out how to do this.....maybe i need a different style?

i do know html, i know enough CSS to fiddle with it, but can't write CSS on my own....so i hoping someone can direct me somewhere as i have searched, but obviously am not searching in the right place....i saw where i can import a LJ style/theme, but i just want to customize a DW one.....

thank you in advance!!!

ETA: Resolved!! THANK YOU!!! :-)

ETA: SOLVED, THANK YOU

My apologies if this has been asked before, I checked the tags and there wasn't anything.

Is there a way to take the page title, module title, and entry title out of italics and just have it be regular, non-italic font in Fluid Measure? This seems to be hard-coded into the style itself, it's not something I can fix from the Customize Journal page. Is there a CSS code I can implement to tweak this, or something? The layout is otherwise fine, I just really dislike the italics on the header title.

Hello! We'd been noticing among a few people we know that there are some who really, really like Crisped, but don't want to use it because they can't figure out how to get rid of the forced ALLCAPS that are just about everywhere in it. So, we threw together some Custom CSS to get rid of all the forced uppercase:

code )

If you don't like the forced lowercase in the header, you can also use this:

more code )

And finally, because the decreased letter-spacing can make the navigation menu and header hard to read for some people, especially after removing the allcaps, here's some css that fixes the letter-spacing, too:

also more code )

Hoping this helps!

Hi there! I've recently switched to Practicality and have again encountered Dreamwidth's love of putting text over a header banner, as shown here, top right: Photobucket (click the thumbnail for a bigger view).

I'm not fantastic with HTML and CSS, but I know it's there somewhere, where I can put the header banner as a background image and move everything down, but I can't remember where to find that bit of code or how to alter it.

This isn't just an issue with Practicality, it occurs in every DW layout I've used: the Customize area allow for a link to a banner, but the text in that box won't move down, despite the user filling in the height of the banner, so the end result is a clash of text and banner that is frankly ugly. Would it be possible for someone to look into this and change the behaviour of text in the topbox? Or is that too big an ask, as it affects pretty much all DW layouts? I wouldn't know where to post such a suggestion, myself, and as I've said, I know next to nothing about coding.

Thanks for your help!

Header issues

I'm currently using a layout with a custom header. I would like my journal title and subtitle to not show up, but if I change the code in the CSS to "display: none", the entire header disappears. If I delete the titles in the Customize Style section, the header itself also disappears. Is there any way to keep my header image, but have the titles removed?

Thanks in advance!
[personal profile] marahmarie

It's this problem all over again except you're swapping a "subtitle" for a "Back to Top" link, which also would not hold still until [personal profile] foxfirefey stuck it elsewhere. I added the subtitle using [profile] ninetydegree's code to [personal profile] jana shown here, and it worked like a charm (I guess Transmogrified normally does not show a subtitle, but I'd always wanted to mess around with one). I'd like to keep it since it's handling some fancy CSS3 rather well, but the fact that it moves around at different resolutions makes it a non-keeper unless there's some way to make it stop. Any ideas?

Here's the subtitle at 1440 by 900 (where I thought it would land at all resolutions): http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll128/marahstest/subtitle_at_1440x900.jpg

At 1024 x 768: http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll128/marahstest/subtitle_at_1024x768.jpg

At 800 x 600: http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll128/marahstest/subtitle_at_800x600.jpg

Thanks in advance to anyone who can tame this little beast.
