I assume many people are thinking of doing this, since the recent site changes have not gone over well. Before we all jump in individually, do we want to collaborate in some way? Has anyone already cobbled together a good one? What are other good options for people who liked Tropospherical Red/Purple the way they were and don't want them to change?

(Sorry, not sure how to tag this...)

I had an image map of my journal navigation for my imported Flexible Squares layout. I recently switched to a native DW layout (Abstractia) and have gotten all the CSS fixed. However, I'm at a loss as to the theme layer coding for DW.

The image map is giving me a compilng error of: Can't define undeclared object function Page::lay_print_header()

the code )
I took several '<' out so the code will show up; I'm aware they should be there, but that's not the source of the errors. I don't see a way to link to the theme layer with the syntax showing, but both the new theme layer and old one are set to viewable.

Thanks for the help!

This is extremely obscure, but in case it's been bugging anyone else who uses their reading page to read RSS feeds of WordPress blogs and occasionally suddenly has a page that's 10 million miles wide:

Add this to the CSS definitions section of your custom style.

.wp-caption {
max-width: 600px !important;
}

Problem solved.

How do I change the width of the entries. I have been trying to find the code for it but I am at a loss. Thank you in advance.
How do I also change the size of the navigation bar and I have been trying to put a boarder around it like the entries but I have not been able to do so.

Hello everyone, I hope it's okay to ask what's probably a very basic question to people more knowledgable than myself! I currently have my journal set to a very gently customised version of[personal profile] momijizukamori's Starry Sky theme, with two columns with the sidebar on the right (I guess you could look at it yourself if you want....) Basically the only change I've made using CSS is to remove the subtitle. What bothers me is this: the sidebar currently extends all the way to the bottom of the page and that bold empty bar against the starry background doesn't really look all that great. I would prefer it if the black ended right under the last displayed module. Is there some simple way to do this using CSS?

Thanks for reading and (if you do) responding!

Hello! How to remove unpleasant messages from the Latest Things? I used to do something and messages from users unpleasant to me did not appear in the Latest Things. But I forgot how to do it. Or tell me the address where I can get advice about this problem.

Hello,

I recently transitioned from LJ to Dreamwidth. I managed to have my layout appear almost identical to my LJ one, but I still have a few issues.
  • For some reason I can't get tags to show with my entries. What code do I need, and where do I put it, for it to work?
  • I would like to have an 'edit' link beneath each entry on the 'recent' page, so that I could quickly edit an entry, without having to select that entry first.
In case anyone is interested, this is my current theme layer. I'm sure, by trying to get things the way I want, I managed to maybe break it? If anyone could have a look and help me out, that would be great!

I'm trying to have my text color be different colors on my layout in different parts of my layout. For instance, the calendar days should be a different color from the taglist page. I have the colors set in my stylesheet, but the 'text color on page' choice in the customization wizard overrides everything in my stylesheet. Is there a way to prevent that?

Edit: Solved

I am currently messing around with more of the DW base styles. Is there a way to hide the entire module at the top of the page that says "recent entries" ? I went back through the blog here and I found out how to hide the text but I am still left with the bar at the top. I am using Line Up.

Now that I got my header up as you can see on my journal, it looks great on PC which is where I mostly use Dreamwidth. But on mobile it's obviously not responsive (the css is, the header isn't).

Is there anything I could do to fix this, or should I rather learn to live with it? hahaha. If this were transmogrified, I know the content and the header would have the same measures when zooming in and out. But for this, since it's customized for mobile viewability, I don't know what I could do. So any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi! I'm lost here and it's a bit lame of me since I've been making layouts since forever now lol. But can anyone show me how to add a header to Mobility? I'm having a bit of trouble. Thanks in advance!

Hi, do I have a fussy question for you:

The little cut-tag triangles never seem to line up with their parentheses in any style I've used. Previously I've been able to nudge them into place, but on my new layout for [community profile] fancake, they are off and the only way I can make them line up nicely causes a problem.

I did this:

span.cuttag a img {
margin-bottom: -6px !important;}

And it's fine...but if the entry ends with a cut tag, this creates a vertical scrollbar within the entry. Clearly this is because of my negative margin bottom. Is there a nice, honest way to do this that doesn't infringe on neighboring elements? That triangle needs to be nudged down a whole bunch.

Thank you!

Hello! I was wondering if anyone would have any advice on how to get the names of the months in my archive to start with a capital letter? I'd like it to say "January" instead of "january" for example. I managed to get my journal entries fixed, but I'm not sure about the archive itself. Thanks!

Hello,

I've gone through a dozen or so themes since I first got on Dreamwidth back in 2009, before I realized that really, I just want Generator back. Yesterday I found the tutorial by [personal profile] toker on [community profile] dovewood and their tutorial here. I love it, it takes me right back to what I wanted, but for a few things:

- No icons in individual posts, including posts on my reading page.

- No usernames show on entries in the Reading page.

- The edit/edit tags/add to memories/notify buttons would be nice to show on indidual entries on the main page when I'm logged in (as opposed to individual entries when I'm looking at it from the permalink or comments pages.)

I left [personal profile] toker a comment on their tutorial entry, but I'd really like to find out how to fix these things myself. I know some basic HTML and CSS, however the things I'm seeing suggest that maybe Generator still isn't 100% compatible with DW. Failing that, I'm wondering how difficult it would be to design a layout which consists of a top title bar, entries in separate content boxes, and a bottom or footer bar, and the ability to have a background image behind it. Does this already exist, and I'm just missing it? I know about Abstractica, but the times I've tried it, it hasn't been too friendly on my mobile.

Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to make Basic Boxes resemble the ancient  3 Column LJ layout - anybody remember it?

What I'd like to do is...

1. move Date and time to the right of the userpic on my entries

2. Have the entry management links at the top right

3. Move my userpic/icon up nearer to the entry subject title.

4. Be able to make all 3 columns narrower if that makes sense?

I did manage to find the original 3 Column source code but when I compiled it I got errors.
Here it is

I was wondering if maybe it would be easier to fix the errors - if possible? than do the above with Basic Boxes?

Thanks in advance :-)

I have a really very old theme, probably almost as old as Dreamwidth. I must have had some help to do some customisation somewhere along the way, because it's exactly the way I want it, except that something must have gotten borked.

Near the top of my entries page I have "active entries," "style credit" and "expand cut tags" in a really big font, none of which I want to see there. But I don't seem to be able to control them through "modules," so I'm a bit stuck.

The style is apparently "Minimalist Again (Rilina) (#71929)." I've put the code from my layout layer under the cut, in the hopes that this is the right information to share.

Any help would be much appreciated! As you can tell I'm over my head but I can't find anything I like as much as my current style, if I could just get the stray bits under control.

Here is an example of what my journal looks like.

I don't know when or how it happened, but the colored boxes (backgrounds?) that my navigation links were in have disappeared. I'm using the theme 'Fruit Salad by renoir for Leftovers' and I can still see what the colors of the boxes ought to be when I go to the theme customization, but no matter how much I click on 'Save Changes' the boxes are still gone when I go back to my journal.

How can I fix this?

(Thanks in advance!)

I noticed that the latest code push somewhat messed up my navigation links by reducing the space between each link.

Is it possible to increase the spacing? It looks very clogged right now and it's messing with my sense of balance. I can play with the values to see what looks best, but I have no idea what the code should be.

I'm using a customized layout for Tabula Rasa where the navigation links have been replaced by icons in a sidebar. The icons aren't displaying anymore and I haven't been able to get them to show up because my CSS knowledge is super basic orz

Here's the specific bit of the code that deals with the navigation links:

Thanks in advance!
