[personal profile] runpunkrun posting in [community profile] style_system
Hey guys, I have another question for you. I'm using Modish and have my metadata set to display at the bottom of entries, but I want to have the crosspost link come last, after the tags, so that I can shrink it and not have it be so prominent since I don't actually need to read it. I can make the crosspost link small, but I have no idea how to move it. I have a feeling it will take Advanced Customization. I can create layers, but the rest of the process is a code-filled mystery to me.

I... think you have identified a shortfall in our Core code. Metadata is a read-only string, so the order of it can't be changed with a function. And, looking at the way the classes are produced, there is no class for each individual list item! The spans that surround the label and the item have classes. But not the li that encloses them both, and is the only thing that could be used to move one bit or another with css.

So, as far as I can see, the current answer is: that's not possible. But I will see about submitting a bug to change that!

No problem! I put in a bug, and we'll see what approach everyone thinks would be best once people surface from the holiday-and-new-users rush. I'm voting for an actual change to how metadata is handled, since you're not the only one who wants to move items around.

I would love if this was the way chosen - someday I want to start using a real DW layout instead of a ported one but one of the things I want to seriously mess with is the metadata.

This is a general problem, too -- if I want to hide the Memories link on a layout, I have to hack into the layer, because when things have classes those classes are always on the link itself. Can't even use attribute selectors, since the <li> doesn't have any relevant attributes.

*thoughtful* There really have been a lot of people lately who want to hide some of the nav module items. This is probably going to cause another round of "ack, we're overloading the interface!", but I'll put up a bug for that, too.

(cozy) Well, I appreciate the thought.
