Adding new menu items

Okay ... I know all DW styles have the default menu items, like Recent Entries, Reading List, Profile and so on. Is there any way to add something to the menu, like a link to an external website or another journal / comm?

I know you could theoretically make a custom menu using the "Links" or "Custom Text" modules, but for layouts like Blanket where you can't put them everywhere (like on the nav bar) ... well, yeah.

To tell the system to use your layer, you need to go to the Styles part of advanced customizations. Depending on your account level, you should either edit the style you're currently using (it's bolded) or create a new style. I believe http://wiki.dwscoalition.org/notes/S2_Guide:_Style_System_Overview#Creating_and_managing_styles explains how to do this.

Okay, thanks! That worked ... except that once it applied that layer, it blew away all the CSS styling I'd already done. Then when I cut-and-pasted it back in, that removed the layer, since it switched it back to the "Auto-generated customizations" layer.

Do I need to add the CSS instructions to the custom layer itself, somehow? There's a CSS section in the S2 cookbook, but it doesn't have any instructions.

Wait, wait, I figured it out ... I needed to create a new theme layer, and then set it to use that. x_X Sorry, it took me awhile. I was confused by stuff like, I wasn't sure what the difference between "theme" and "wizard" was, and it gave me customizations for feathertail first when I clicked on "Advanced Customization" as becomeyourfursona.

Anyway, many thanks again! Is there any way I can help streamline this process for others? Bug reports, suggestions, documentationingness?

I don't think there's anything buggy about it unless I misunderstood what your issue was and I don't know what sort of suggestion you have in mind so I can't advise you on that. I can say for sure we can always use more documentationingness, though. :) The different types of layers are mentioned in http://wiki.dwscoalition.org/notes/S2_Guide:_Style_System_Overview but it may need clarification.

Well, for bug reporting I thought it might be useful if it had you work as the community when you click on advanced customization from there. Although since you go through a separate page in between, that might be tough to implement. :\
