Hmmmm. I don't seem to be able to get your suggestion for the first problem to work. Or rather, it works but the top of the usericon and the top of the title still only aligns either when the title is one line long or when it's two lines long. I can't get them to align for either case with the same code.
I'm starting to think that the only way this problem can be solved is by mucking about with s2 so the whole combo of entry title - userpic - entry content is ordered differently. In which case the comm I'm making a layout for will have to make do with the half-assed version - I don't have time to start poking into DW's s2 right now. I don't know nearly enough for it to be other than a very slow and labourious process.
Your solution for the second problem works perfectly, if I want the username under the icon - which I totally want myself so I'm saving that solution for when I'm working on my own layout - but in this case I wanted it under the title and date. ninetydegrees gave another suggestion below though and that works for what I wanted for this layout.
In any case, thank you very much for taking the time and trying to solve my problems for me. I really appreciated it!
