Yes, it is strange indeed. I don't know what I'm missing here. Just to be sure it's not some strange Windows thing I adjusted my Windows screen res to 1280 x 768 a minute ago, then I tried my original code at both that res and 800 x 600, and it's still perfect. From here. Why it's not quite right on your end is not something I can quite figure out (fonts? if you have Vista fonts in the style sheet, which I haven't checked for, they're often much narrower than XP fonts so they can throw off padding on some elements).
If this was IE we were seeing such differences in, then I could instantly blame the fact that I use Vista if you use XP (because IE8 for XP and IE8 for Vista actually display some of the same style elements a bit differently), but since we're both in Firefox, I'm simply out of ideas.
2nd edit: Just checked my Fonts folder; I don't have "Lucida Grande" installed and that's your main font throughout; if you do, maybe that's the reason (assuming it's a wider/smaller font)? *feels clueless*
