That would probably be good. Using custom_header worked charmingly, and it even let me make the whole thing an if statement so that it only outputs if my particular default background image is in use, so I am very happy with that. (One for the dreamscapes tips and tricks post.) But having an extra container that's a proper part of the stylesheet cascade would be very handy.
