In IE8 your layout looks fine with the exception of the entry userpics which may have something to do with the height and width requirements you have for them. Try replacing that with min-height and min-width instead. I'm not sure how it looks in IE7 or Safari and it looks terrible in IE6 (so does my layout) and I don't know what to tell you about that other than upgrade your browser.
