This worked for me:
Go to
http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/options
/ Custom CSS / the big box and type:
#header #title {
background-image: url(Enter your image URL here);
background-position: 50% 10px;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
padding-top: 400px;
}
The padding value should be the height of your header image plus some pixels for spacing.
