comment count & icon browse

I don't really know much about programming css so hopefully these will make sense.

1. The page summary sidebar on LJ would give me [#] after the title of the post to show how many comments had been made on that post. Is there a way to do this in DW? The style I'm using now is crossroads if that makes a difference. [Solved]

2. One some posts when I comment there is an option to preview my icons to select from a pop up that has them as thumbnails which I really liked. However, on other posts this option isn't available. Is that because of the journal style being used? Why is it there some times and not others? [Solved]

#1: I think there's a setting for this, I'll have to check to see.

#2: I hadn't noticed this, so I'm not sure. Do you have any examples?

1. Thanks. I tried the preview option on the select styles menu but didn't notice any variation on [#] there.

2. When I reply to you I get a pull down menu listing my icons then next to it is a browse button that will bring up a pop up showing thumbnails of my icons. Sometimes the browse button is gone and only the blue icon link is available. If I click it then I'm taken to my icon page. Screen shot below.

My immediate suspicion (although I haven't tested this, so I don't know) is that you're not getting the browse button on people with core1 (LJ-based) styles. But that's just a guess.

That seems reasonable. I have no idea how to test it - unless you know a place running core1 I could try out?

For the button not to show up, I'd have to agree - I can't think of any other reason for it to suddenly disappear.

Finally remembered how to get #1 to work as you want. Go to the Modules section of the Customization page and find the Page Summary module. Where it says Comment count as tooltip , uncheck the ticky box and save changes. That will give you the comment count next to the entry link.

Yeah, that's how it shows up on mine as well. I'm not sure if it can be changed - did you want the [#] instead?

As long as I can see the comment count for the posts that's all I'm really concerned about - the rest is just style. Ideally the comment count in the page summary would link directly to the comments on each entry but that's really not a big issue for me. I"m just happy to have the comment count available to me.

Awesome :D And that's not a bad idea, I'm not sure if it's been suggested, but if not, you might try submitting it to see what happens.

I have the linked comment count on lj and it's quite handy. I checked dw_suggestions and there is already a suggestion for it although the description on it is a little convoluted and it's from Nov 2009 so I don't know if that means I should resubmit it.

Okay, here's your answer: The suggestion was actually moved to Bugzilla, which means that when someone has a chance to work on it, it will be implemented. So no resubmit necessary. :D

Hmm, do you remember a particular journal where it doesn't work? If you can give me an example, I'll see what I can find!

If I'm on the main page of a comm, like this one for example, when I click on reply from the main page I won't get a browse button on the posts. I have to click into the post (ex. for example) then hit reply to get the browse button to show up. The same thing happens with journals. I have to be in the post and not on the journal's lists of posts or trying to reply to a post from my reading list. I don't remember if I've ever had a problem with the browse button not showing up when the comment box just drops down.

I think the problem is that when I'm in a post the comment box just drops down unlike what happens when I click reply on the main page or from my reading list. I hope I haven't been too confusing.

Aha! Okay, that's a difference between the in-page quickreply and the reply on a separate page. It's not because of the journal style, but because of how the reply form is generated (behavior will be the same no matter which style you're using).

Thanks for bringing it to our attention *g* I've just filed a bug, so we'll have that behavior consistent once someone picks it up.
