Hi guys!

I'm admittedly mostly super new at this stuff, so I apologise if this is really basic. I've been tinkering around with a custom layout (this one, by aliahan to be specific) trying to get it more in line with my desired outcome. After googling around for fixes, I finally got my reading page looking just the way I want it. (live preview, image preview)

My problem is this: the entry management links and entry interaction links in my journal entries don't display the same way. (live preview, image preview for a longer entry, and live preview, image preview for a really short entry.)

I'm using Tabula Rasa, which I know doesn't naturally display the entry management links and the entry interaction links in the same line (and boy it took me a while to figure out how to wrangle that and I'm still not sure my fix is the best one) on the reading page, so now I'm just like... stuck... basically...

I'm not sure if it's even possible to fix it on the too-short entries, other than making sure I don't create entries that are too short??

The other thing I wanted to do was remove the userpic and userpic column from the journal entries entirely (just on the journal entries mind, not on the reading page!) so that the body of each entry takes up the entirety of the white box area. I tried ".userpics { display: none; }" but that had no effect whatsoever, so. Yyyyeah.

Anyway, I'd be really grateful for any help that anyone can give! Here's my layers & css if it helps:

ETA: Oh also, if any one knows how to get the "(no subject)" line out of just my sticky entry, that would be tops... I figured out how to remove the "sticky" text but that was as far as I got... aha... hahaha. ha.

ETA 2: All solved, thank you!

I know it might be waaay too early to start knocking on Planet Caravan since the code roll out hasn't been publicly announced yet, but I thought I'd nip this problem quickly so other users can enjoy this beautiful theme without that *one* problem that irks them.

There's a styling bug when it comes to turning off comments for a journal entry.

When comments are enabled in any way we get this nice entry management link bar at the bottom of every entry on the single/permalink page:

 photo good_zpsa24419da.jpg

But when I disable comments for an entry, I get this:

 photo bad_zps8f766fa5.jpg

The link bar styling is gone because it seems the management links just tag along with the styling of the interaction links. I've tried styling them on their own but they ride off the link bar onto their own disheveled bar.

Can this be fixed with CSS? Or a theme layer until this is fixed in the source code?

BTW, I am using Firefox 20.0.1...

Thank you for your time.

Hi,

I've recently imported the Flexible Squares style from LJ with some help from some truly amazing tutorials, but I've found myself with an issue that I can't seem to find an answer for on my own.

Basically, this is how a typical post looks to me on LJ. There are three links on the left bottom corner of the post, one to edit the post, one to edit tags, and one to add to memories.

And this is the same post on DW. There are no links here at the bottom left corner.

Can anyone tell me how I can get the 'edit post', 'edit tags', and 'add to memories' links to show up on my DW posts like they do on LJ posts?

Thank you.

Hey, I don't know anything about CSS and I was hoping for help with a (minor, I hope) tweak that has to do with the entry management links on the reading page of another journal I manage.

On this page, I want this to look like this, pretty much, with the ► linking to the top level comments only view. (I might change my mind on which symbol to use but I figure ctrl+f ► and replace all instances are within my limited scope.) If that link could mimic the current behavior of the #comment(s) link, where it doesn't appear unless there are comments present on the entry, it would be great — but that's not necessary at all.

I'm working on the Plain style, 2 column sidebar on left, with a variation of this layout that someone else customized. I've looked around some but if this information/a tutorial on how to do it exists, I don't know where to find it. Thank you in advance!

[ETA]: Solved!

Hullo!

I'm not so much an LJ refugee as that I keep an outpost on DW just in case. My layout over there has a lot of personal customzations - it's not one of the public themes; it's something I did the graphics and colours for myself, and not being able to reproduce it has been one of the things that's kept me from wanting to be as active on DW as I am LJ.

Well, I only just tonight found out that there's a tutorial on importing LJ styles (this one here, using the instructions for a Mixit import). While I have the layers created and compiled okay, I have run into one minor(?) problem... On LJ, I'm using Expressive as my base, which I'd gotten the impression was more-or-less the same as Mixit so I thought it might work alright. Apparantly there are more differences than I realized, because while the basics of the layout are there, there are features that have shifted around - the links specific to each entry are now in vertical colums rather than horizontal lines, as are my header links, and my sidebar is appearing at the bottom of the page (after my entires). (That's probably an obvious enough explanation, but in case it's not, this is how it looks on DW, and this it how it looks on LJ).

I don't generally mind trying to tweak things when I know what it is what I actually need to tweak, but I don't have the kind of mind that'll let me paw through code and find the problem. I'm assuming it's either an issue in the CSS somewhere (though I could be wrong) or there's an adjustment I could make to the CSS to compensate for the base code, but it's all just too much like an algebra problem for me and my dyscalculia to figure out. :/ Does anyone have suggestions for what I might be able to do to fix it, or know of a fix that's already in use - preferably one that doesn't involve having to switch to Mixit on LJ, trying to recreate the layout there, and copying it back to here? (Or is there a local style that might be suited to rigging a similar look on DW? I did glance through the themes here, but didn't see anything that seemed to be a good fit. I'm not averse to some changes, but I'd like to keep my header graphic/page background and colours/etc - and a lot of the local styles also have entry boxes that get squashed due to my monitor's resolution being on the lower end.)

[ETA]: Getting the links onto their lines seems to be more-or-less handled, now, so I'm left with:

- The sidebar not positioning properly
- Entry tags vertical-columning (though I suspect I may know how to fix this eventually, if I play around with things enough - now that i see how the link lines were fixed)

I think I got the terminology right in the title, but I'm unsure. My tricky problem is as follows:

I haven't dabbled much at all into CSS, but I'm part of a mod-team which wants to mirror a community on LJ and DW. Over on LJ we have a very pretty layout: [livejournal.com profile] dhr_advent which was made by a volunteer (who does not have a DW account). I would like to use this same layout over on DW.

I used [personal profile] parapsychic's Importing Flexible Squares journal style to Dreamwidth, and was able to get the visuals to work: See [community profile] dhr_advent

However, all the little things that make Dreamwidth enjoyable are horribly busted. I assume that this is because that's all built into the DW S2 stuff, and not LJ's flexible squares. Right now, I can't manage tags, I can't click headers to open entries, the tag module isn't appearing on the front page, and who knows what else.

What's my best bet to mimic as closely as possible the LJ lay-out, but in DW? I'm aware of two resources:

Conversion Guide: Flexible Squares
http://wiki.dwscoalition.org/notes/Conversion_Guide:_Flexible_Squares

S2 CSS
http://wiki.dwscoalition.org/notes/S2_CSS

Custom CSS written for LJ )

Are these my best resources for doing a conversion? Is there another resource or write-up I should know? Any tips for a beginner CSS person? Am I completely missing something that I should know? :)

Hi there. I've gotten my layout looking mostly as I'd like it to, but I have one issue. Is there was a way to change the entry interaction links from text into images? I'm using the Blanket layout. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm not sure if I can actually do all of these things with a free account, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask.

1) Is it actually possible to widen the sidebar? The tag cloud just looks really constrained with the size of the sidebar right now, and I just want to make it wider. It's not an option in the customizations menu, but I wondered if it was possible to do with CSS?

2) I want to make the links at the top for recent entries, reading, etc. a little bigger (and also not underlined), but I can't figure out what to put in the CSS to do that. I did put custom CSS which worked on the links in the sidebar (took away the underlines and change colours when I mouse over), but it doesn't do anything to the links at the top of the page, so maybe I'm missing something?

3) At the bottom of the entry there's a bar with "Edit Entry" "Edit Tags" "Memory" "Share" "Track" on the right. How can I get rid of the "Memory""Share" "Track" links there? It just looks cluttered with all that there, and I was able to do that on my livejournal, but I can't remember if that was a paid-account feature or not anymore. Related, can I replace the text with the little icons, as well? I'd also like to place a text separator between the links, like so: "edit entry ~ edit tags" Is that possible, as well?

Thanks so much! :D

I'm trying to get an entry's management & interaction links to repeat at the end of a post. In the S2 code, those show up at the start of the style & then I've duplicated them to repeat as the footer of the post.

But nothing's showing up in the footer. What am I missing? Any ideas are greatly appreciated, because I'm stumped.

Hi! I'm hoping someone here can help me a bit with my CSS.

I've tried to find some documentation online on how CSS works but what I'm able to find are way over my level (If I don't want to spend days reading it through and learning how to build a page from the bottom up, which feels like a bit overkill.)

I'm using the transmogrified site scheme, and after changing colors and other things under customize I'm mostly satisfied. I've tried to change a few things with CSS and some things worked, other just mad the whole thing confusing.

What I want to is to move my icon just a bit. At the moment I have it in the left hand corner on the entries. I want it to be just a little bit further down. Preferably so the bottom is on the same level as the user name of the poster of the entry. I've noticed that the icon seems to be fixed in the top left corner, which, if a user posts with a smaller icon than 100x100, makes the whole thing look like it's just floating there. So I would also like to know a way to make it fixed in the bottom left corner instead. After moving the icon down it would also be nice to know how to move the posts a bit closer together.

Bonus question: Is there a way to remove the links in the bottom of the entry other than '#comments' and 'leave a comment'?

Would be eternally grateful for any help received.

I've noticed that as long as a post has no replies, the "link" option is visible. As soon as someone replies, the "link"/"reply" options disappear, and are replaced with "reply"/"# replies" instead. That makes me go through three additional steps if I want to be able to link to a post, then, because I don't always want to link to the replies or even to the reply option -- I just want to link to the post.

Does anyone know if this is something that'll be fixed in the next code/style push, or if it's a setting I can adjust on my own?

Good day, all! :)

I installed one of the layouts from thefulcrum, following the instructions to port the MixIt layout over to dreamwidth. (This layout.) The layout shows up (presumably) as it's supposed to but I want to know how and if I can make a few modifications:

1) The footer links are... well, too numerous: I only want the "post comments", "view comments", "edit entry", "edit tags", and the permalink to the entry. The others I want gone. Tried to delete them from the custom layer but it... didn't seem to work.

2) The usernames and community names don't seem to show up properly. On my Reading page, only usernames show up in posts to communities, and in individual posts there is no username showing. I want to be able to see the username (and community name, if applicable) underneath the icon (if there is one).

3) Date/time! I want 24 hour time and the full month -- so, basically, "posted at 14:43 on 3 May 2009". I attempted to do this but apparently the dates on dreamwidth are formatted differently than on lj, and I couldn't find documentation on the dreamwidth site to fix it.

Suggestions on how to proceed or even places I could ask about it are appreciated (as the layout maker won't provide help on further modifications to the layout). If this were on lj, I'd go to the everything_lj comm, but I doubt that they'd appreciate questions on a different journaling site. ;)

Thanks!

eta: I think I'll .. give up on the customisation for now, as dreamwidth doesn't appear to allow free accounts access to creating/editing custom layers anymore. :\ I just got a message when I tried to use the fix in comments that my account type doesn't permit that feature. I was just using it an hour ago, too!
